Bert Metten

Technology Development Manager - Ajinomoto Bio-Pharma Services

Bert Metten

Bert Metten (°1978) received his MSc in synthetic organic chemistry (Leuven University) in 2001 after studying the synthesis of macromolecules with fluorescent cores. His PhD (2005), under the supervision of professor Wim Dehaen, included synthetic entries towards non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTI) and low-affinity fluorescent Ca2+ indicators. He started working for Proctor and Gamble in 2005 finishing a project on macromolecular slow release systems. In 2006-2009 he was a senior scientist at Devgen (now Syngenta, Ghent) working on the synthesis of kinase inhibitors and ion channel inhibitors in the medicinal chemistry department. He started as research chemist at Ajinomoto Bio-Pharma Services (Wetteren) in 2009 and soon became head of the technology development group responsible for process research with innovative tools including biocatalysis, PAT, (photo)flow chemistry, membrane technology etc. As such he was co-inventor of the HANU™ reactor.
